Do You Like Shots?

The answer for many of us would be a resounding "NO!". Injections are not enjoyable as they have caused pain and anxiety since we were born. We have all experienced it, and as children many of us remember the fear that flooded through us when we heard the dreaded word "shot". Current estimates even say that for children, this anxiety is heightened with 70% of pediatric patients suffering from needle phobia. The need to reduce anxiety and pain during injection procedure is one that spreads to encompass not only the patients, but clinicians and parents. Our device aims to create a child-safe housing for a syringe that mitigates the pain and anxiety of injection procedures.

What's the Problem with Current Injections?

Current practices with injections are anxiety filled experiences for the pediatric patients. Going through the pediatric injection experience from the perspective of the patient, one quickly sees that there is a great need to dramatically improve this experience. After conducting over 80 patient and clinician interviews, we decided to focus on creating a device that will not only reduce the pain of injections, but will also remove the emotional anxiety during the procedure.

Jetter: Revolutionizing the Injection Experience

Our product, Jetter, aims to create a safe and approachable injection experience for pediatric patients. Our product aims to achieve this through a proprietary mechanism created to streamline the injection process. Not only that, our device will also help reduce emotional anxiety during the procedure to further aid in creating a better experience for the patients. The syringe will be housed in our device securely, giving medical professionals full control over the procedure.

Blast Off! There Goes the Pain!

To help reduce pain from the injection, Jetter features a pain mitigation module to provide a numbing sensation. Through research in pain mitigation devices, the gate theory of pain, neurology, and physiology, we determined that our device would be one of the simplest ways to mitigate pain while still affording ease of manufacturing. Jetter aims to reduce the pain of the injection experience in a non-invasive way.

Where's the Market?

There is an estimated 75 million pediatric patients in the United States, and every one of those patients are recommended to getting immunizations. Through market analysis, we identified a $2B market space for our product. We aim to market to pediatric hospitals seeking to create a better experience for their patients. Jetter will be easy to use, affordable, and disposable, allowing it to be used at every clinic.

Looking Forward, Upwards, and Beyond

Jetter is still a work in progress, and is rapidly growing. We are currently concluding interviews with medical professionals, patients, and parents regarding our product and have also begun production of our high fidelity prototype. We are in the process of securing IP for our device and raising funds for our seed stage of growth. Long term, I hope to continue the development of this product with aid from the team and our mentors Dr. Malakooti (Lurie Children's Hospital) and Dr. Shayan (Northwestern Memorial Hospital). We hope to be able to make the injection experience better with Jetter soon!
